Crew runs early morning Hyattsville house fire
At 0147 hrs this morning, E811 responded as the working fire dispatch engine to a house fire in the 6000 block of 34th Ave, in Company 1’s area. Units on scene reported a two story single family home with smoke showing, and began operations on division 1. E811 responded with 6 and upon arrival performed a brief 360, locating fire in the basement Charlie/Delta quadrant. At the direction of command, E811 advanced a line through the Bravo-side basement door. The crew was met with zero visibility and densely packed storage conditions, but nonetheless extinguished fire in the basement back room, alongside PE844.
During the incident a mayday was transmitted for a firefighter on division 1 disoriented and low on air. Following RIT activation and dispatch of a Mayday Task Force, one firefighter was transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation. One occupant of the home self-evacuated without incident.
E811 remained on scene for approx. 2 hours before returning to service.
