Fatal Multi-Vehicle MVC on I-95

Around 4:15 am on Saturday, March 9th, 2019, E113 and A118 were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on I-95 southbound before Powder Mill Road. While en route to the call, PSC advised responding units that they were receiving numerous reports of a vehicle on fire and possibly someone trapped. The assignment was then upgraded to an entrapment response bringing additional units.

Upon passing Cherry Hill Road on I-95 NB, E113 observed heavy fire on the slow shoulder. Arriving first on the scene, E113 advised the corrected location was I-95 northbound before Powder Mill Road in the slow shoulder and advised responding units they had a multi-vehicle accident with one vehicle fully involved and one patient lying in the road. E113 established the command and immediately went to work triaging patients and stretching an attack line to extinguish the vehicle fire. Shortly thereafter, A118 arrived on scene and took over patient care of the victim found lying in the road.

While knocking down the vehicle fire, E113 crew discovered a victim inside the vehicle who was pronounced deceased on the scene. E113 crew knocked the vehicle fire and remained on scene for approximately 90 minutes providing operational support and ensuring the fire was completely extinguished. A118 transported one patient with serious injuries to an area trauma center with MD810 on board.
