Fire at Xfinity Center
At approximately 23:30, Engine 812 was dispatched to investigate an automatic fire alarm at the Xfinity Center, the major sports arena at the University of Maryland. Crews from College Park entered the building and found a strong burning odor through out.
A full box assignment was requested bringing Branchville Engine 811B which responded with a full crew. Upon arrival the crew of E811B took two high-rise packs and entered the loading dock to the mechanical room where the fire was reported.
During entry E811B’s crew connected to a stand pipe connection to back up E812. Multiple units arrived shortly after E811B, set up RIT at entrance and loading dock while ladder trucks were deployed. The fire was contained by the sprinklers inside the room but generated heavy smoke in the arena. Crews from different companies assisted in clean up.
